Every workshop is unique and catered to meet specific needs and/or academic goals. Students will be introduced to and explore foundational dance technique and the elements of dance within a selected style. A diverse amount of movement styles can be selected; ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop, tap, and some cultural dances from around the world. Participants will be exposed to basic concepts of anatomy and kinesiology that will give them an understanding of their body and joints and how to optimally use them. Students will be inspired to express themselves through creative movement; developing a stronger sense of who they are and discovering how they connect to others. Critical and higher level thinking skills will be used to analyze creative movement choices and learn choreographic sequences.
Residencies are multiple workshops given over a dedicated amount of time. Residencies allow participants the opportunity to dive deeper into a particular academic goal, a dance style(s), creativity, and self expression. Students will gain increased knowledge in movement vocabulary and develop a better kinesthetic sense. Inclusive and collaborative dance activities will be provided to promote opportunities to expand understanding of diverse perspectives, encourage problem solving, and build community. The Residency will culminate with a mini performance, showcasing students’ work and collaborations. Diving deeper into the art of dance will give participants a true sense of pride and community.
